Physical & chemical properties: Under normal temperature and pressure, the product is a colorless gas with a sweetish. It has a melting point of -97.7°C, a boiling point of -23.73°C, a flash point of below -40°C, and a density of 0.921 g/cm3 at 20°C; it is soluble slightly in water and easily in chloroform, ether, ethanol and acetone. It is noncorrosive.
Application: Methyl chloride is a chemical Intermediate for methylation agent, such as methyl chlorosilane, the electronic methyl hydrogen amine oxide, methyl cellulose, methyl hydroxide amine organic tin stabilizer and the synthesis of quaternary ammonium compounds; Another one percent is used as a raw material in the production of butyl elastomers;lt also be used as raw material of chemical industry.
Handling and storage: Methyl chloride should be stored in steel pressure tanks built. Stored in cold climates, storage tanks should be rated for vacuum service. Additional local code requirements must be incorporated in the construction of the storage tanks.
